Low Cost Dual Antenna Inertial Navigation System (INS‑DL)

Not every programme needs tactical-grade gyros. The INS-DL keeps the dual-antenna heading architecture of the INS-D and substitutes an industrial-grade IMU, which moves the unit into a price band that works for volume industrial and agricultural deployments.

What the trade-off actually costs you

Gyro in-run bias stability moves to 3 deg/hr, angular random walk to below 0.3 deg/√hr, accelerometer in-run bias to 0.01 mg at ±8 g. Free-inertial land drift becomes 0.5% DT rather than 0.2%. Pitch and roll settle at 0.08° static, 0.04° dynamic, 0.01° post-processed. Heading is unchanged where it matters most: 0.08° on a 2 m baseline with NovAtel OEM7720 or Septentrio mosaic-H, 0.2° with dual u-blox ZED-F9P.

Position and corrections

RTK holds 1 cm + 1 ppm CEP horizontal, 2 cm + 1 ppm vertical. SBAS 0.6 m, DGPS 0.4 m, post-processing 5 mm, TerraStar-C PRO 2.5 cm. Velocity accuracy 0.05 m/s RMS.

Who buys the INS-DL

Precision agriculture guidance, autonomous ground vehicles, satcom and radar antenna pointing, industrial heading stabilisation, low-cost aiming systems, and integrators building scanning payloads where budget per unit governs the design.
