Ruggedized FOG Inertial Navigation Systems with MRU (INS‑DM‑FI)

Where the INS-FI puts a fiber optic gyro core into a compact cylinder, the INS-DM-FI and INS-BM-FI put that same closed-loop FOG IMU inside the super-ruggedized, EMC and EMI shielded housing of the INS-DM family — and add motion reference output on top. INS-DM-FI is the dual-antenna build; INS-BM-FI runs a single antenna.

Four data streams from one box

The output set is what sets this unit apart: raw IMU accelerations, angular rates and magnetic field; AHRS heading, pitch and roll; MRU heave, surge and sway; and full INS positions, velocity, delta theta and delta velocity. Heave measures across ±300 m at 0.01 m resolution, with real-time accuracy of 5% or 0.05 m and post-processed accuracy of 2% or 0.02 m. For vessels, cranes and offshore platforms that need motion compensation alongside navigation, that removes a second sensor from the install.

FOG performance

Closed-loop fiber optic gyroscopes measure ±490 deg/sec at 200 Hz bandwidth, with 0.5 deg/hr bias repeatability over temperature, 100 ppm scale factor accuracy, 50 ppm non-linearity and 0.025 deg/√hr angular random walk. MEMS accelerometers span ±8 or ±40 g at 0.005 mg in-run bias stability. Free-inertial heading error stays under 0.5° with no GNSS and no magnetometer; land position drift holds 0.1% of distance travelled and aerial drift 3 NMPH. Pitch and roll reach 0.01° static and dynamic, 0.005° post-processed.

Positioning and receivers

RTK fixes to 1 cm horizontal and 2 cm vertical, TerraStar-C PRO to 2.5 cm, DGPS 0.4 m, SBAS 0.6 m. Dual-antenna heading resolves 0.08° on a 2 m baseline and 0.15° on 1 m, or 0.01° post-processed. Receiver choices span NovAtel OEM7720 and OEM719, Septentrio mosaic-X5, and u-blox ZED-F9P, ZED-F9P L5 and dual ZED-F9P.

Integration and build

Interfaces cover RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, CAN and Ethernet, with ARINC-429 on the .123457 variant for avionics work. Encoder support, a 64 GB data logger and three pressure-port options to Mach 2.5 are available, alongside an external ADC and Stand-Alone Magnetic Compass. Commercially exportable under ECCN 7A994. IP67 sealed, MIL-STD-461F EMC, MIL-STD-810 temperature calibration, MIL-STD-1275 compliance, -40 to +71 °C, altitude to 15,000 m, 185 dB acoustic noise. 160 × 149 × 96 mm, 2100 g.
