Dual Antenna u-blox GNSS Inertial Navigation System (INS‑DU)

The INS-DU is the configuration to specify when the GNSS receiver choice drives the bill of materials. Built around dual u-blox ZED-F9P modules — with NovAtel OEM7720 and Septentrio mosaic-H available as alternatives — it delivers all-constellation tracking, RTK, and 5 mm post-processed positioning at a price point suited to scanning and survey products shipping in quantity.

Positioning and heading

Horizontal RTK accuracy is 1 cm + 1 ppm CEP; PPK reaches 5 mm; SBAS 0.6 m; DGPS 0.4 m. Heading resolves to 0.2° on a 2 m antenna baseline with the u-blox pair, or 0.08° if the NovAtel or Septentrio option is fitted. Post-processed heading: 0.1°.

Inertial sensors

Tactical-grade gyroscopes at ±2000 deg/sec with 2 deg/hr in-run bias stability, 72 deg/hr residual bias error and 0.38 deg/√hr angular random walk, working alongside industrial-grade accelerometers spanning ±8, ±15 or ±40 g. Pitch and roll come in at 0.08° static, 0.05° dynamic, 0.03° post-processed. Free-inertial land drift is 1% DT with Tunnel Guide aiding.

Where it fits

Low-cost GNSS-denied navigation, mobile mapping and scanning payloads, integrated land vehicle navigation, and aiming applications where dual-antenna heading is required but tactical-grade drift figures are not.

Mechanical and electrical

Sealed unit 120.5 × 53.2 × 49.3 mm, 320 g, IP67, MIL-STD-810G. OEM board 85.5 × 47.7 × 40.2 mm, 174 g. Operating -40 to +75 °C, storage -50 to +85 °C. Supply 9–36 V DC at 5 W, MIL-STD-1275 protection optional, output in binary or NMEA 0183.

Inertial Labs, a VIAVI Solutions company, supports the INS-DU through ROS, LabVIEW, Waypoint Inertial Explorer and QINSy, with direct ArduPilot and PX4 navigation messaging.
