Fiber Optic Gyroscope GPS-Aided Inertial Navigation System (INS‑FI)
The INS-FI is the unit to reach for when the mission assumes GNSS will be gone. Closed-loop fiber optic gyroscopes replace MEMS on all three axes, and the resulting bias stability — 0.025 deg/hr in-run, Allan variance — is what makes true-north gyrocompassing possible without any satellite or magnetic reference at all.
Performance without satellites
GNSS-free heading error stays below 0.5°. Land position drift holds at 0.1% of distance travelled. Aerial free-inertial position reaches 3 m. Pitch and roll are 0.01° both static and dynamic, tightening to 0.005° in post-processing — figures that put the INS-FI in the same conversation as far heavier and more expensive navigation-grade hardware.
The FOG core
Gyroscopes measure ±490 deg/sec with 200 Hz bandwidth, 0.5 deg/hr bias repeatability across temperature, 100 ppm scale factor accuracy, 50 ppm non-linearity and 0.025 deg/√hr angular random walk. MEMS accelerometers cover ±8 or ±40 g with 0.005 mg in-run bias stability and 150 ppm scale factor accuracy at the lower range. Both run at 1000 Hz.
Aiding and compatibility
The INS-FI works with Inertial Labs VINS for vision-aided navigation and with the stand-alone magnetic compass, alongside wind sensor, airspeed, external position and external heading aiding inputs, plus Doppler shift from a locator for extended GNSS-denied operation. Internal or external air data computer options are available. Full ArduPilot integration is included.
Compliance and build
Commercially exportable under ECCN 7A994 — a meaningful advantage on international programmes. Embedded anti-jamming and spoofing mitigation, temperature calibration to MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 EMC and EMI protection. D88.9 × H129 mm, 950 g, -40 to +71 °C, altitude to 15,000 m.
